  •  Don't let him keep his job, but don't let him go (7+ / 0-)

If he offers his resignation, Obama should refuse it. Instead, McChrystal should be busted down and kept in the field, only carrying out the strategy rather than trying to create it. Remind him what it's like to be further down the chain of command, and get him used to following orders again.

If he's a good boy, maybe he can earn his way back up someday. If not, we won't be paying him a general's pension.

That's the only outcome -- with resignation being an acceptable alternative -- that can happen here. Otherwise, Obama will look like a weak-ass loser.

He needs to assert civilian command and control and state clearly that he's the Commander in Chief and he is not going to put up with insubordination. Disagreeing on policy is one thing. But doing so to the press and then making such idiotic andd disrespectful comments about his superiors is unconscionable.

What would have happened to some major who did that to McChrystal? The guy would probably be up for a dishonrable discharge.

    •  Like like the idea of busting him. (1+ / 0-)

Light Colonel Stanley McCrystal. Make him stay in until 2013 to collect any pension at all. Or let him quit, and explain that to Fox and Friends.
