There are reasons this kind of behavior is against the codes of honor and military justice in this country.  We demand complete respect for civilian authority to those we bust our behinds giving high tech weapons to.  They should only have one thing in their minds and hearts and thats carrying out the mission assigned to them by civilian authority.  If anyone in uniform doesnt believe in that then why should the private ordered to attack a machine gun do it?  I mean certainly he disagrees with the policy.

but it is an indirect one, and NCJan's comment is pretty inflammatory.

By having a military man show such a public lack of respect for his commander in chief, he is signalling to his troops that Obama's civilian authority can be questioned.  If he truly believes in the Constitution of the United States, he is by extrapolation saying that the military does not need to respect and acquiesce to the authority of this particular commander in chief.

and there's extrapolation.  I think there's just a bit more than one degree of separation between countenancing an unguarded crack about the VP and openly advocating insurrection.

Ever since Clinton was elected President (and this trend started way back when the Vietnam War was winding down) the military in this country has been associated almost exclusively with one party--the Republicans.  Jesse Helms even told Clinton he'd better not visit NC's military bases if he treasured his life.

McChrystal's comments are just more of this baloney.  He would not have spoken this way of Bush/Cheney.  This is something that must be addressed by Obama for the good of the country, or the meme will be furthered--if you are a Republican, the military respects you and is subservient to your will.  If you are a Democrat, you are a dirty f**ing hippie who must be undermined.

That's about as close to coup d'etat as I would like to come.
