People really need to be clear about this. We are not living in normal times, with a normally elected, normally functioning executive. Politicians and opinion leaders who behave as though we were, who think it is productive to focus our attention on policy nuances and to debate positioning, are ignoring a fast-approaching wall.

The criterion (singluar) I now apply to determine whether a federal candidate is worthy of support is the extent to which that candidate works to oppose the Bush administration. I now expect my candidates to be road blocks and monkey wrenches. I hate that I have to simplify it so, but there it is.

I tried to make a list of areas where such opposition is most needed, but there seemed to be no end to it. Military aggression, environmental exploitation (particularly drilling/mining/logging), erosion of constitutionally protected liberties, manipulation of the news media, elimination of critical analytical capabilities in the intelligence agencies, massive tax cuts and evasions, procurement fraud, locking away government records, destroying evidence from elections ...

We cannot work with these people. We cannot live with them. They must be removed from power, and until they are, they must be prevented from doing more harm.

My leaders are opposition leaders. I'd like it if some of them were Democrats.

day asking that I not ask people to send photos of the war --- since it was unethical to use chain letters.  I didn't respond, but I thought, "these times call for more than chain letters, if you won't even do that, then you are totally nuts and clueless."

with chain letters?  Yes, let's crack down of the nefarious chain letters.  THAT we can do.
      •  Chain letters be damned (4.00)
We don't have time to play nicey-nice or to worry about the ethics of sending pictures of the true price of this war.  We don't have time to wonder about chain letters.

I'm sitting here trying to think of a way to tell my father to wake up to what is really happening here.  I'm trying to find the words on a day to day basis to tell my grandsons what their future looks like.  I'm trying to find a tone of voice that hides the panic and alarm that is raging through my body.  The time for quiet dissent is coming to an end.
