to really filibuster, if they did they would have the Senate stay in session 24 hours everyday forcing the Rethugs to actually work for their reckless obstructionism. The filibuster should be reformed and if the Rethugs were in power facing a record amount of filibuters by the Democrats they would have tried everthing to get rid of it.

This is something I don't understand. Why not pick a relatively uncontroversial matter like a mid-level appointment and dare the Republicans to actually filibuster it instead of threatening to? They'd look terrible tying up the country's business over something like that. Keep ratcheting up the stakes, and when they finally filibuster something major, they'll come across as obstructionist instead of principled.

I don't necessarily buy the argument that Dems are caving into filibuster threats; it's just that the reasoning isn't apparent.

it's not like the movies. If you want it to be like the movies, then sure, reform the filibuster rule so that it is like the movies, then do it; I'd support that 100%. But whatever you do, REFORM NOW, and that means Dems need the courage to talk about it.

Senate rules which prevent any reform of the filibuster are unconstitutional. Therefore, we can rein in the filibuster tomorrow with 51 votes.
