Every kossack living in MA or NE should be on the phone to Brown and Nelson. Even if you have a job, please - consider it a service to those of us who are desperate.

I get my last check next week. Others have already received their last check. Retroactivity is fine, but for people living on the edge, it doesn't keep the rent paid or the power on, or the pantry even marginally filled.

I am scared. I have never been so scared in my life. And I am not by any stretch alone. I don't want this to impact my kid any more than it has. And I have very little power to do ANYTHING about this. We are pawns.

I send out resumes by what feels like the ton. I take the time to cull through and tailor the resumes to the job I want to be considered for. I write cover letters that show that I've researched the job and the company. In 18 months, the number of responses I've received can be counted on two hands. I've gone on two interviews. And each time I hear that I'm overqualified. And it's true. The person interviewing me in each case has indicated that I'm more qualified to be in their position or higher. Telling them that I don't care, that I'm not looking for that responsibility right now, that I am more concerned about making sure that my child makes it out of high school well supervised, that I'm happy to look to growth within the company in a few years but not right away, none of these things matter, because the hiring managers think I'll jump ship at the first opportunity. That I won't means nothing. And frankly, as a (former) hiring manager myself, I don't blame them.

The fact remains that I want to work. Nobody, it seems, wants me. But I continue trying. In the meantime, we are in danger of losing the only home my daughter has ever known. And for no good reason.

So please - some of you are in a position that the rest of us are not. If you live in MA or NE, please make the calls and encourage your friends and family who are in these areas to do the same. Do it for those of us who are affected by this horrible political game, and who do not have a voice. Be our voice.

    Thank you.

The talking points of the GOP are disgusting . . . people want to work!  We want to go to work in the morning (or at night) and have a paycheck and pay our bills.  That's what we DO!  And I am so sympathetic, dear friend -- I remember looking for work and waiting and waiting and hoping . . . and I am so grateful for the job I have now . . . it's not what I would WANT to be doing, if I had my druthers, but I don't, and I am grateful . . .

Best of luck to you, dearest asimbagirl.  Hope and prayers.

But my money ran out last week, and I walk with a cane.
