this past Sunday at the American Library Association conference. I wanted to look nice for a group that had honored me, so I wore a skirt and heels, but on the way to the breakfast I fell off my high-heeled shoe and sprained my foot.

I'm waiting to hear from an editor who was supposed to be getting back from that. Well you're back.

Congatulations, by the way, again. That's neat. Except for the injury, of course.

my next book, which was nice. So I sent their contact information to my brand-new agent. I also saw another editor who had already requested it, and two editors who had read an earlier version of my published novel 20 years ago and I got the feeling never wanted to work with me again.

          That's nice! Mostly.

Now that's the kind of rejection you can take personally :(

makes sense for someone querying or sending material who's never worked with an agent or editor before. But once someone is with an agent or editor on a project, this becomes another workplace relationship, and those often do turn ugly for one reason or another.

In the case of one of the editors, I was at fault. She put a lot of effort into line editing the first two chapters and giving me guidelines for the revision she wanted, and rather than communicating with her, telling her I'd run into difficulties making her revision work, I simply vanished.
