    I worked for a daily newspaper in the news art department a few years back and decided to flip a photograph vertically so the people were facing the opposite direction. It was not that big of a story. Some local groundbreaking IIRC. I just thought it would be more esthetically pleasing if the people were looking into the page. It fit the layout better. I got in so much trouble from the editor I was afraid I was going to lose my job.

    This kind of thing is a very big no, no for journalists -- at least ones who care about the facts. I learned my lesson and never tried anything like that again.

    For this kind of manipulation to be on the cover of a major magazine is really astounding.
