  •  I took a really bad fall this weekend (27+ / 0-)

I tripped over a threshold straight onto an asphalt driveway - face plant. My eyeglass frames cut the bridge of my nose and the side of my eye. I really should have gotten stitches. But I couldn't. I am healing up slowly, with no help from painkillers.

    I feel your agony. Literally.

    •  I bet thousands of stories like these happen (15+ / 0-)

every day. If I think of it in terms of suffering that is needless, it's just overwhelming.

    •  About the painkillers (11+ / 0-)

Ya' didn't hear this from ME - and I'd read up on it heavily before "going herbal" -  but if one is so inclined to investigate such things, you might look into keeping something like Kratom around for just such emergencies. There are alkaloids in the plant that bind to opiate receptors in the brain - which relieves pain. If you're in the U.S. it's (for now, anyway) perfectly legal. But again, read up on it and note that, like many painkillers, it can be habit forming.

Another end-around one can do is purchase poppy pods (must be papaver somniferum) which can be obtained legally for "flower arrangements". I've seen the seeds sold at Wal-Mart. The dried pods (available with a quick Google search) can be obtained and ground in a coffee grinder, boiled a little in water and a rather unpleasant-tasting tea is the result. Primary ingredients are morphine and codeine. Again, proceed with extreme caution. Just like the prescribed stuff, this can be addictive and one could conceivably overdose.

I hope no one is upset that I'm posting this info. I just hate to see people who can't afford a doctor, hurting, un-necessarily.

This ain't no party. This ain't no disco. This ain't no foolin' around!

generic works.  Don't drink alcohol with it.  I know it hurt you, but this individual doesn't need to suck on flower arrangements to relieve the pain.

Try the neosporin or else wash the puncture wound out well with Hydrogen peroxide or alcohol (which will really hurt- so take the acetometaphin).  Hope your tetanus shot is up to date (10 years) otherwise consider a visit to the public health board.  Either gangrene or tetanus are worse pains.

Sorry about the insurance- the home remedies are likely to hurt a lot too.

        people used constantly.

castor oil!  if you sprain an ankle, wrist, etc., wrap the area in sheet cotton soaked in castor oil then cover with an ace bandage and saran wrap to keep the oil from getting all over everything.  same goes for knees, shoulders, etc.

for cuts, keeps out infections, keeps swelling down and speeds healing.

castor oil is made from the ricin plant, it is a vasoconstrictor - which means it will keep lymph from building up around the injury.

when nimbus danced on my foot, i had a goose egg within seconds. by the time i hobbled back to tack room and wrapped foot with said cotton and castor oil, the pain eased and within minutes was totally gone.  when it started to hurt again, i unwrapped to find castor oil all absorbed into the area, but no goose egg - just a black foot.  kept it wrapped for a week, walked and rode like normal as long as the castor oil was saturated.

for my arthritic fingers, when pain stabs, i dip them into castor oil and the pain is gone within two seconds.

        muscle aches? castor oil packs.

it is totally legal and very effective!  heck, edgar casey called castor oil "palma christi" for the "palm of christ" for it's healing abilities.

soak your whole finger into the oil and it will ease the pain, but that splinter still needs to come out before it gets infected.

castor oil is at most drug stores in the same place as either hydrogen peroxide or in the children's laxative section.  (yep, it was used for that too, ugh! i still remember - BUT, for a tooth ache or sore gums, it kills the pain there, too!  just don't use it long term on tooth aches - bad teeth can and will kill you!)
