  •  1/2 of Californians Are Stupid (13+ / 0-)
It was bad enough that Californians elected Schwarzenegger the first time - to say nothing of their stupidity in falling for the Republican recall of Democrat Gray Davis. When they reelected Schwarzenegger they showed how many of them are knife-gnawingly stupid.

But that half of Californians would still vote for a Republican governor, especially one who was one of the stupidest spokesmodels for McCain, who ruined a legendary California corporation, after all we've seen of her and her Republican ilk, proves that Californians are getting dumber despite all the lessons they've shoved in their own faces.

    •  Schwarzenegger wasn't so bad in 2006 (3+ / 0-)

His real missteps (like the special elction in 2005) had largely been corrected by then and he had a good environmental track record by then, which goes a long way.  Phil Angelides was a poor campaigner and, shall we say, challenged in the charisma dept.  I know people who voted for Arnold who will never vote for a conventional Republican like Meg Whitman.

      •  He Was a Joke (6+ / 0-)

Schwarzenegger as governor was a sick joke. Unless he actually fixed California's budget/debt crisis in that first term, which was what he ran on, there was nothing to redeem him from being a joke. He made it worse, which was perfectly predictable. Crumbs like his mediocre environmental record being better than Republicans' typically evil record are no substitute.

Angelides' lack of charisma shouldn't be an excuse for putting a charismatic joke in office.

Californians are insisting on catastrophically low standards for electing officials. This poll showing they consider Whitman about equal to Brown as having as governor shows the standards are practically nonexistent.

Electing people because of their advertising budget or movie trailers gave us Reagan. And Schwarzenegger. And now Whitman is coming along. There is no excuse for that kind of failure to learn from catastrophic mistakes.

      •  Worst Guv Since Reagan (0+ / 0-)

A total disaster that far too many Democrats -- hi Kos! - supported for some ungawdly reason.

A two-term terror. This is often a very dumb state.

        •  I don't know, man (0+ / 0-)

Deukmejian and Wilson were pretty bad. Deukie was a fairly consistent right-winger while Wilson was more like Ahhnold, slippery and sometimes unpredictible with a fake moderate sheen. The one that is in power now always seems the worst. Also Reagan wasn't a "true Reaganite" as Governor as much as when he went national. Hard to say who was the worst...

    •  Californians want a celebrity governor. (0+ / 0-)

So whomever they see most on TV seems OK, since they can't be bothered to actual check these people out. They're too busy trying to be celebrities themselves.
