  •  That's OK - we Easterners have a smug (10+ / 0-)

satisfaction when West Coast and Floridians declare 30 degree weather a disaster while we're used to 0 degree weather in winter or colder.

So Californians can scoff at our puny earthquakes - fair's fair.

I used to live in Southern California.  I just experienced one quake in '69 or '70.  I don't remember what it was on the Richter scale, but I remember getting slightly 'seasick' as the ground and the house swayed underneath me.

Fingers crossed the major earthquake they keep predicting does not happen for many more years.

    •  But 30 degrees is frickin' freezing! ;-) (8+ / 0-)

Could it have been 1971? That's when the Sylmar quake hit. I nearly slept through it (my dad woke me up to get to a doorway - as a kid I could sleep through almost anything). That one was pretty unforgettable as well, although our area did not feel it to anywhere near the scale of Northridge.

Right after the Northridge earthquake my (now former) boss asked me "so you wanna move to Texas now?" (as if they don't have their share of natural, and political, disasters.) No thank you. I'll deal with the earthquakes!
