  •  Yeah... (6+ / 0-)

but I don't think that is going to happen either.

Hopefully with the reform- we will strike first.

    And then strike first again.

don't you hate having to type "hopefully" in that sentence?

The clarion call we all should be hearing in David's post is aimed at the heart of the one sided political battle for America. Republicans, especially the most dangerous mutation, the Teabaggers, are fighting an all-out war while democrats are continually amazed at and unprepared for the insanity coming from them.
I think David is very right that filibuster reform would top the list of priorities for a new repub congress- even trumping impeachement
(it would be a close second, though.
making America unsafe for non-white presidents is very, very important).
The filibuster was supposed to be an emergency measure, to allow thoughtful senators to slow down and think through difficult issues. It does not resemble this in any way.
it, like so much of American governance, has become corrupted beyond repair. Precedent matters, and can rarely be undone.
So yeah, though I opposed the nuke option in '05, and the gang of 14's "solution"' I must throw my chit in with Waldman. The filibuster is broken,it must go, and it will go by the hand of the first Senate with the guts.
Let that be us, despite the opening sentence of this post.
      we're fucked, aren't we?

The Republican Party will never die until there is a new political home for racists.
