      But again... electricity isn't free. And if you start scaling up production enough to eat into gasoline in a meaningful way, you need baseload, which means either coal or nuclear - both of which are subject to peak in the near future.

      It sucks, it does. But I'm sick of people claiming the reason things aren't being done is because of conspiracy rather than technical limits.

      "Only" 60 gallons of gas a year falls under my caveat of "slightly smaller shitloads".

      Not to mention about half the energy footprint of a car is in its manufacturing. And you're not solving THAT problem at all.
