  •  On in-groups and out-groups (6+ / 0-)

Writing on the attitudes toward women, Rianne Eisler observes:

"When children are taught that half our species is put on earth to be served and the other half to serve, they acquire a mental map for economic inequity that is generalized to other relations. They learn to unconsciously accept the subordination and economic exploitation of all "inferior" out-groups by "superior" in-groups".

Yes indeed!  Consider whom forms the core of the neocons - it's the religious right who feel that women are subservient to men!  This is how domination becomes deeply embedded in the culture!  Neocons and the religious right are extreme examples of dominators.  Domination of men over women becomes extended to domination of one nation over an another - the root of warfare.

"The real wealth of a nation consists of the contributions of its people and nature." -- Rianne Eisler

    •  You could go a long way with this premise, (4+ / 0-)

applying it to neoconservatism and its followers.

To feel worthwhile yourself, you need to make somebody else "less than." Women. LBGT. Brown-skinned people.

Lately, the unquestioned social privilege of straight white males has been slipping away; it's a trend maybe accelerated by the current recession. Lots of white, male neocon true believers (and some neocon true believers of other descriptions, as well) are really feeling panicky. Their panic manifests itself in excessive and hysterical vitriol directed at members of traditional "out groups."

really explores this concept (forgot the author).  but he shows how racial or gender frameworks are easily mapped onto issues that seem to have little to do with either race or gender.
