  •  I'm a Seattle Teacher & WA Unions Have NOT (6+ / 0-)

fought for the rest of the workers in this state the way they should have.

This is my 5th year teaching.

I came out here 21 years ago from MA. and I was a cook. I ended up cooking on fishing boats. I went back to college and got a math b.a. and then worked in software during the dot.bomb, 5 years at Microsoft. I escaped a HORRIBLE boss & picked up my math endorsement for high school.

Washington state Unions have NOT fought for the other working peee-ons in this state in seriously meaningful ways, and, consequently, whole swaths of the work force are hostile or ambivelent about union membership.

This year, at age 50, I will break into the $51,000 a year income level. This is the 2nd time in my life I've been over $50k, the other time was 9 years ago at that year I made 51k.

From the statistical abstract of the united states, 2010, table 689 money income 2007, appx:

185,000,000/238,000,000 had money income UNDER $50k.

214,000,000/238,000,000 had money income UNDER $75k.

14,000,000/238,000,000 had money income OVER $100k.

The over 75k and the over 100k professional managerial crowd of the Democratic Party has, for the most part, REALLY REALY REALLY ignored & pooh poohed & minimized the realitie$ of tho$e under $50k.

    I hope you're right Ken.

I just spent a few days agitating with some AFT members from Chicago and Detroit and NYC ... we protested outside Arne Duncan's lunch yesterday in Seattle & a bunch went down to a dog & pony of Mr. Privatization for Cronie$ Con$ultant$ and Edu-Crat$.

Bill Gates is speaking at the AFT conference today.

In Washington, we have at least 3 astro turf orgs funded by the Gates foundation pumping out deform ANTI-teacher bile 52 weeks a year. The Alliance For Education, the League of Education Voters, and the Partnership for Learning.

I'll be PUSHING my leadership to fight for everyone, cuz

if we don't give a f*ck to fight for everyone,
why should everyone give a f*ck to fight for us?
