in her efforts. Hey, I was a pudgy white kid. But not because of my diet. We had fresh vegetables from the garden, we ate together as a family every night and in moderation, dessert was a holiday treat and I was only allowed sugary cereals and something fast-food occasionally while on vacation. Television was a family affair--no "couch potato" stuff and never eating while it was on-- and my brother and I played outdoors and did chores in my New England country upbringing. Nonetheless, my genes dictated that I was a pudgy white kid. I'm still a little stocky, but not fat. I guess that's what one gets for being in one's 40's.

If I had eaten the way many kids do, I would be fat. Good for Lady Obama. I cannot imagine how that pudgy white closet-case Drudge could get what he got out of her speech. Jeez.

I refuse, militantly, to be a second-class citizen in my own Republic just because of the accident of my sexual orientation.

much of my life -- partially genetic (that good Bavarian heritage from my mother's side, plus my father's side was also prone to obesity), partially because when the other kids wanted to go outside and play, I'd rather stay inside and read. At least now I'm eating healthier foods and in a bit more moderation -- I get the occasional cravings for junk food but balance them out with lighter, healthier meals the rest of the day because if you tell yourself you can't have something, that just makes you want it more...allowing things in moderation keeps the cravings from going out of control.

Doubt I'll ever be at the weight I should be, but if I can at least stay healthy in the meantime I'll be able to hang in for a few more years.
