  •  Obama's right because he said so? (0+ / 0-)

He is dead wrong.  This is not the Revolution, the Civil War or any of the other "glorious" undertakings you list.

Less than 400 AQ total in Pakistan and Afghanistan, less than 100 in Afghanistan.  Less than a quarter in number of the Amercian KIA thus far.

You want to fight religious extremism, start right here in Uncle Sam's backyard.  We got plenty, and they will torture and kill all in the name of God.

Are the Taliban goons, probably.  But they are their goons, not ours.  We don't need to be friends, we need an Afghan government, however it is comprised, to police criminals within their borders.

And that is all we need from Afghanistan.

police their goons. And within their borders spawned AQ. We can't allow Afg to return to it's 'glory' days pre-9/11, which is just what you're asking for.

      No thanks.

Obama is right because I believe he knows a whole lot more about what's going on over there than you or I.

Obama is not a foolish man.  Unfortunately for we progressives, and the Democratic Party as a whole, he is also one of the few people on the public stage who are truly hamstrung by an idealistic faith in fairness.

More than hellraise, more than rouse the base, Obama insists on doing what he thinks is fair, honest and just.

That's why Gibbs will continue to give press briefings.  That is why Obama castigated the Democrats during his first State of the Union address.  And that may be the reason Democrats suffer whatever losses they do in November.

But that, combined with his obvious intelligence, is the reason why I trust him so much on national security issues.  And why I think he at least deserves the benefit of the doubt in this case.  Because more than doing the politically EXPEDIENT thing, Obama is driven to do what is the RIGHT thing to do.  At least so long as what is right is still a viable option.

What separates us, divides us, and diminishes the human spirit.
