  •  This situation is a stark example of (9+ / 0-)

the power of the presidency, and Obama's refusal to wield it.

Obama COULD take Nelson aside and say, "Ben, when your term is up you can forget about my endorsement for reelection, you can COUNT ON my full backing of a primary challenger. You want earmarks for Nebraska? I'll do my best to make sure Harry blocks them. You want ANY of the money the executive branch has control of? Forget it - it won't be spent in your state. You concerned about your legacy? I'll do my damndest to paint you as the Zell Miller of the prairies."

But, Obama would NEVER to this. He's NOT an arm twister. He's NOT the "THUG" the Republicans claim he is. President Obama is a gentleman.

You know what? Fuck that. Is the President more concerned with his Mr. Bipartisan image than doing whatever it takes to put food on the tables of millions of Americans in desperate circumstances?

The presidency IS a powerful office. It's about time Obama started using that power.

Pop quiz - Q: How did the incrementalist kick his heroin habit? A: By shooting up three times a day instead of four.
