  •  It always amazes me (0+ / 0-)

how some people will justify anything if it's a Democrat doing it.  This is what I call taking partisanship to a blind extreme.

conservative Democrat from one of the 10 most conservative states in the country should be held to account for not voting with the Democratic caucus on an issue which is not adversely affecting his constituents...talk about an unfair standard...

Now if he was say from CT...I would completely agree...

when Nebraska has some kind of natural disaster?

Do we all contribute to agriculture subsidies?

Since 1983 (earliest year this report shows) Nebraska has received more federal tax dollars than they paid in.  In other words, other states subsidize them.

his desire for fiscal restraint...how exactly???

One has nothing to do with the other...I am as against farm subsidies as the next guy...but at the end of the day...Senators and Congresspeople are primarily elected to support the people in their states/districts...and in this case that is exactly what Ben Nelson is doing...

Again if he was acting like this as the Senator from CA, NY, CT...I would totally agree...but this is Nebraska we are talking about...

          •  It's pretty clear (0+ / 0-)

what I was saying and what I was responding to:

on an issue which is not adversely affecting his constituents.

He is responsible for responding to the needs of his own constituents, but that is no excuse for not responding to the federation of states that he belongs to, as evidenced by the fact that those states cooperate and help each other and subsidize each other at times.

            •  He did with the 2 years of unemployment... (0+ / 0-)

extension...now he feels based on balancing his constituents needs and desires with the rest of the country that the unemployment extension should not add to the deficit...

Not that I agree...but given his constituents...not an unreasonable position to take...
