  •  It's the economy stupid. (5+ / 0-)

The Dems will lose seats (and maybe even the House) this fall because unemployment is still too high, and the overall economy doesn't seem to be getting much better, while other countries are recovering well.

    •  Other countries in (15+ / 0-)

Europe, for example, are not "recovering well." In fact, Republicna-like polices in the United Kingdon are going to cause a double dip there.

      •  The Dems biggest problem (0+ / 0-)

is not other nations, but the fact that the wealthy in this nation are doing better than ever.  And rubbing other peoples' faces in it.

        •  No, it's jobs. (5+ / 0-)

Class identity is weak in this nation.  Too many have a deferential position to wealth.

As soon as you're born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty hard years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see

A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill

A lot of the people I talk to who still have jobs are incandescent with rage at the preferential treatment for the rich by the Dems.  These are Democrats and Independents; and it really sticks in their craw.  YMMV.

            •  If people are enraged at Democrats for favoring (5+ / 0-)

the rich, I can imagine how bloodthirsty these same people are for the Republican Party that for many decades has been the army of the rich, and that continue to threaten the jobs of millions more Americans.

              •  People don't expect any better from Repubs (0+ / 0-)

They don't expect anything besides preferential treatment for the rich by Repubs, but they do expect better from Dems who are supposed to be our friends but haven't really been acting like it.

...people are pissed off because the Democrats favor the rich, so they then will vote for the Republicans, party of the rich?  Doesn't make any sense.

Now, maybe they will not vote, or vote for the Greens or other minor leftist parties, both which damage the Democrats equally, by one half of a vote (voting for the Republicans hurts the Dems by a full vote).  But that's it-although that might be enough.

a third party. Think Ross Perot with charisma. Someone like that showing up in 2012 could seriously change the political landscape in this country.

everyone else doesn't play against Democrats, it pulls a substantial percentage of Independent and even Republican voters into the Democratic effort to make America work for EVERYONE, and not just the selfish, greedy few.

I was absolutely flabbergasted at how the EU countries sounded more like Hoover than us.  Pretty scary, huh? The conservatives (worldwide, it seems) have latched onto Greece as the poster child to beat us with a Hoover club.

over the next several years when the full effects of increasing unemployment and a smaller economic pie to divide are felt.  Europe is still in the pre-FDR phase of the Great Depression.  But that won't last long.

destroyed the American Party. That's why Americans are more confident about Democrats leading the Country.  Republicans will rightly get blamed for the mess they made, and voters will punish them at the ballot box.
