    fine line.

I am quickly coming to the conclusion that the DailyKos community for the most part prefers trashing people more than just about anything else.

And make no mistake. Trashing the ideas someone puts forth in a diary is trashing the person however fine the line one tries to draw in differentiation.

You've been here a little longer than me, and we've both seen the same thing happen over and over.

and yes, we've seen a lot of it but for me the last few days have been pretty bad.

I could care less about Gibbs or what he said. That's just average daily shit that happens in Washington politics. But the level of animosity being spewed between people within this community towards others in this community is truly saddening.

Mostly I ignore it which is perhaps why I've been able to be patient with it. Perhaps I've just read too much of the vile behavior in this particular pie fight.

        •  You are not wrong, but you may be aiming at (0+ / 0-)

          the wrong targets.

This diary was written to start a pie fight. When your main thesis is that the President is going to screw the left in the near future, because he is in the pocket of Wall Street and the Republicans, you are being incendiary.

Then you try to inflame the Deaniacs by bringing up Gibbs sandbagging of Dean during the 2004 Iowa primary. You then try to use this as evidence in support of your dire predictions for the future.

This is flame wars 101. Not very well executed, but classic nonetheless.

That why the diarist got the reaction she did.

    •  criticizing and idea or a post is not a personal (5+ / 0-)

attack. i dont care what the diarist's motivation is, only the rigor of the post. we all fail at posts sometimes, so it's really not a big deal.

    •  I strongly disagree. If someone says (11+ / 0-)

something really stupid or counterproductive or offensive or insane, people shouldn't have to pretend otherwise.

It is not a personal attack to point out that someone has said something stupid.

but it doesn't have to be filled with the vitriol being spewed by people these days.

it is quite possible to inform someone that their comment is unsourced, nonsensical or whatever without attacking them or sinking to name calling which not everyone has done but quite a number have and it is to those comments my disillusionment is aimed.

And yes, those are indeed personal attacks because they go far beyond dismantling the persons position.

In the case of this diary the "drop the ball on Warren" speculation is exactly that. Pure speculation based on nothing solid. The tie-in of Gibbs past history, which has nothing to do with Warren as far as I can tell, is however sourced and useful and information.

actual name calling, not the criticism of the diary, no?

The diarist would have been much better served omitting the Warren guesswork from her diary.  The diary would have been much less susceptible to criticism.

But, she consciously chose to write it that way.

it is simple the style and level of the criticism that I find distasteful and disheartening given the level of vitriol slung amongst the community the last few days.

personally I think this diary could have been done without and I wish folks would let the whole Gibbs thing die so that we can move on hating each other over the next divisive outrage.

            Peace,

            Andrew
