...to hold anyone accountable for the torture program that was admitted by Bush, Cheney et al.

Oh and BTW Obama is arguing that it's OK to detain people indefinitely and without due process at Bagram Air Force base in Afghanistan.

    •  NYT and WaPo are your evidence? (0+ / 0-)

"If it's true" then it's entirely out of sync for everything we know about Obama.  Capitol Punishment is not only something Dem's don't believe in but without historical evidence to Obama's character.  He has gone out of his way, and political good, to attempt having combatants tried in an American court.  I don't believe he's assassinating anyone for a minute.
He didn't openly prosecute anyone for torture, true.  I'm sure they paid a price for doing so but it wasn't public.  That was a disappointment but, again, it would have been a political negative to do so.  The agents didn't give the order to torture but they did follow that order.  I was in the military and followed many orders that I didn't like.  It's a grey area.  But, by keeping his political clout, we got a health insurance and financial reform bill (as well as many others).
Bill Clinton gave away his political clout for the rights of military gays to serve openly.  A noble cause but we lost the 1993 Congress over it and many legislative opportunities...and gays fared no better for the effort.  That should inform you of why Obama chose to not prosecute agents for a grey area.
Yes, we should prosecute Dick.  It's questionable whether we could successfully prosecute Shrub and, if he was declared innocent, we might be the losers.
Politics is a game of opportunity.  You do what you can and stay away from fights that cost you those opportunities.  Sad?  Absolutely.  Fact?  Absolutely.  We can't deny facts or run away from them.
