    the serious answer is: Because our federal government has gone out of its way by enshrining in law their opinion that same-sex families are not real families. If it doesn't include an LGBT provision, then, by default, DOMA excludes same-sex families from being included.

      that this is wrong?  I know, that must be the most naive question ever asked, but..
      It's like realizing that no, not every woman is a natural-born mother.  Some women frankly should never be mothers.  
      This forces us all to realize that no, not everyone has a small still voice inside that tells them when they're doing something wrong.  Or if they do, they've learned to tell it Hush.
