  •  Yeah (6+ / 0-)

In the 1990s I saw an episode of 20/20 where they did a study. They brought in these guys who were 6'0+, 200-230 pounds, musculed up, and attractive. They then brought in much smaller guys.

They made the smaller guys doctors, lawyers, military, and all of the "desirable" careers that women want in men. They made the taller guys carpenters, garbage men, day laborers, and other "less desirable" carers. When faced with the choice the vast majority of women still went after the taller guys.

    •  Initially, yes, but (0+ / 0-)

what happens after that really depends on the guy.

A good looking guy who's also nice and relatively intelligent will do very well with most women.

A good looking guy who's a jerk will get to meet a lot of women, but many of them will react badly to the jerk-hood.

A OK looking, but very nice guy who has a good job may find it harder to meet women, but will find it easier to KEEP the ones he meets.

    •  Our lizard brains (0+ / 0-)

This is natural selection and Darwinism at work.  A pleasing appearance triggers a brain response as powerfully as stink does.  Our sensory information is processed instantly to keep us from danger. It must be very difficult to set aside these instincts unless you are aware of them.   Human predators often understand instinctively that they are less of a threat if they appear attractive.
