fully auto assault rifles have been highly regulated since the 30s. They require federal registration, a tax stamp, and a thorough rectal exam by the ATF.

    •  As they should; but in the past 20 years, I've (0+ / 0-)

more than once heard members of the NRA campaign to get the restrictions removed. My comment was illustrative and not to be construed as an understanding of what is currently legal. Although, except for assault weapons, I really don't know much about weapons laws.

        Like the registry.

I cannot own a selective fire weapon (as a civilian) on Form 4 unless it was registered pre-1986. What's the difference between the same gun made in 84 and 87? Just the year.

The registry just makes sure that all selective fire weapons are priced extremely high to make sure as few people can own them as possible.
