  •  no term limits, please! (0+ / 0-)

Term limits is one of those ideas that sounds good at first, but is a bad idea full of unintended consequences.

The "politician not statesman" rep who knows he/she won't run again, has nothing to lose and everything to gain by selling out to any lobby willing to buy.  If you're lucky enough to have a good rep with character and a desire to serve the people (like my congressman) then he/she is out and who knows who you will get next time.

    Resist corporate serfdom.

    •  I see it as just the opposite (0+ / 0-)

The corporate lobbyist has no relationship with the new politician, so the politician, if he/she is a decent character who understands they are there to serve the People and not the corporations, has no reason to serve the corporate lobbyists.

It would still be up to the People to vote in a good rep AND to reform the laws allowing for increased corporate $ and influence in DC politics.
