    and with you, riverlover. I love my trees too, and the loss of any of them is like the loss of a friend. Maybe when you are ready to go see, you can stop by the nursery on your way and pick out a tree you can take along and plant "together" and in his memory. The land seems so timeless even when it changes. The trees you plant today you will not see grow to maturity, but I find solace in knowing I have given something back to the land that comforts me and nurtures me every day. That's why whe someone asks me why I plant such small trees--"you'll be dead by the time that little thing is 20 feet tall" they say--I answer that although I won't see it, the land will, and it will remember me.
