  •  I call them "Liemails" (19+ / 0-)

My foolish Republican brother-in-law loves to forward them to me, and I used to politely, completely, and devastatingly debunk each one and send it back to everyone on the distribution list.

When they kept coming and coming (and coming, and coming, and coming, and coming, and . . ), I finally got the message.

The truth didn't matter a single micro-whit.  My brother-in-law wanted to believe this horseshit that bad, and be dammed if something as inconvenient as the facts should get in the way of THAT.

And the only price to be paid was my last shred of respect for him.

This is America. Huge multinationals choose our political officials here.

    •  Sending debunkings didn't turn of the faucet (13+ / 0-)

What did it was some meta type responses, like:
"Uncle T - I know you are an educated person. I also know you care about people, because I see it in your relationships with our extended family, your employees, and your community. So I am deeply disappointed that you continue to send out this kind of tripe, knowing it is tripe. You say it is "just a joke" and "all in fun". How is it funny to misinform people, mislead people, feed anger and hostility with untruths? You claim you are a patriotic person, but I have to doubt that, since surely you recognize that what you are doing does not contribute to any sensible dialogue about how we, as citizens, can move our country in a positive direction, with fair benefit to all".

"I want to apologize for that misconstrued misconstruction." Rep Joe Barton
