  •  Great idea! (none)
Would you volunteer to cull through this thread and break down obvious areas of separate research (Grace Ministries above, freespeech thingy above)?

Then you could put out a call to volunteers to sign up for each one, go off in their own diaries and research groups and I could post a meta diary on what they've found and link to them once a day (or twice, whatever we need).

On my current volunteer wish list:

    1. Someone to start FOIA process, particularly of White House press office (and other obvious places).

    2. Someone with graphic skills to create an organizational, visual table of the interconnections we've found between organizations and individuals.

Both items on this wish list could be separate research groups with a couple people in them.
    •  I can help with #2 (none)
I'm not a graphics person, but have some experience with flowcharts and workflows.  Since I'm coming late to this party, I'll need some help organizing the players in order to make the pretty pictures.

My e-mail address is in my profile.

    •  Mapping the connections (none)
We can create a database that tracks the players and their relationships, then displays the connections in a visual map.

The time-consuming parts are designing the database to represent all the information, maintaining the data, writing the software to manage the data, and then writing the code to display the web of connections.

The categories we've come up with so far are:

      • Person (pretty obvious, starting with "Jeff Gannon" at the center)
      • Companies (who do the people work for?)
      • Employees (who works for the companies? would include information like role, such as board member)
      • Relationship -- the key to connecting the people to each other
You could bring these categories down to a useless level of granularity, but since I'm proposing this as a tool for discovering the map of influence and control, it's hard to decide ahead of time where to draw the line.

Anyone want to help me with this? We could use someone who is good at relational database design (MySQL/PHP) to help decide on the attributes for the columns, then we will need people to analyze the connections and enter the data for the players, relationships and companies.

Finally, we need someone who can take the data and visually represent the web of connection.

My husband and I could do the bulk of the work, but the last part would require a day or so to bootstrap ourselves past the learning curve to figure out how to get the database information into a nice neat map.

      •  I can help (none)
I don't think you need the "Person" table - that would be covered under Employees (ie. Gannon is an employee of Talon News Agency).

I don't know anything about php/mysql (I'm a Micro$oft developer) but can help with the database layout to some degree.

I wouldn't go too granular on the data, otherwise it'll get too obtuse for people to understand.

<tinfoil hat>I think we need someone with experience tracking Mafia families.  I think this is getting as complicated as that.</tinfoil hat>

      •  Wow! Marisa, this is great! (none)
I think this could be one of the most helpful tools we can set up.

And thanks so much for just taking the initiative, asking for help and getting it done. I'm trying to keep a list of who's doing what so we can all coordinate later, and I now have you down.
