  •  I also want to get the word out (12+ / 0-)

to send Home Depot a note of support.  They are under attack by the virulently anti-gay group AFA for daring to offer DP benefits and for allowing their employees to represent the store in a gay pride parade.

Please help counter-act the forces of bigotry by sending Home Depot a nice note.

    They wrote back to me:

We encourage our localstore associates to support and engage their local communities. The Home Depot is committed to respecting and recognizing the diversity of all people and fostering an inclusive environment for all.

    Sincerely,
    The Home Depot

I am glad to know that.

      it sounds like it.

I never shop there because HD management used to be one of the most right wing groups around - huge funders of RW candidates, had terrible labor practices.

Perhaps the original owners/managers have retired? Can't imagine they'd support something so progressive.

      •  They always scored much worse than Lowe's (1+ / 0-)

on the Buy Blue index, and though the index is no longer with us, I doubt that's changed.

These battles are multi-faceted and ongoing, and I think it's a mistake to just sort companies into Good and Bad.  For one thing, even the good ones aren't that consistently great.  And for another, a company can offer crappy benefit policies -- for which we should harass them -- and terrific tolerance policies -- for which we should praise them.

The carrot and the stick have to be applied constantly and minutely, not just one-time across-the-board.

One of the top contributors to the RNC in 2004. I found out in 2005 and have been boycotting them ever since.

Good for HD, but f*k 'em anyway. I'm still not buying.

      •  You're missing the point. (0+ / 0-)

Letting them hear ONLY from the AFA on this will make them act worse, not better.  You don't have to shop there in order to tell them that pro-diversity policies make them look good.

they're not good guys. (I can walk and chew gum at the same time. You can probably do it, too, if you practice.)
