  •  Good morning all! (6+ / 0-)

Robin Carnahan is polling half a dozen points behind Blunt by most accounts.  Because he's in a primary fight, he's already spent a ton on ads and it's paid off.

This wedge could be a significant factor in the general election.  Will the Tea Party stay home rather than vote for Blunt?  I doubt a big percentage will do that but stranger things have happened.

Robin needs to capitalize on this, get out on the campaign trail, present herself as a rational alternative to Blunt/Purgason/GOP/Tea Party and not rely on her family's name and history.  IMO Robin needs a little fire in the belly.

    •  I was wondering about that. (5+ / 0-)

We do not have any history on the Tea Partiers to know if they will stay home in fits of pique if they do not get their way in the primaries.

Staying home would be great but I have a sense that polling that will be really hard. Will they just say they are going to stay home (to send a message) and then actually go vote? Or will they say they will vote and then get angrier and angrier with every passing day and then not vote?

The best thing we can do is not assume anything and get our OUR vote. Polling in individual states like California are showing the enthusiasm gap narrowing. We need to get our enthusiasm up and make sure that teabaggers suffer more and more disappointment.

I am following the Carnahan race because I have relatives in Missouri. I am not sure that most candidates have done much yet...things will heat up as far as ads in late August / early September when people start paying attention. In my opinion, the only ones paying attention now are us. ;-)
