    The annulus.

    That kind of thing is why I have obsessive compulsive disorder.  I hear about folks who miss little things that cause disasters, and I feel a need to make everything just right.

    I feel that I am just sensible, and most folks are careless.

    For example, many years ago, a walkway was installed in the lobby of a new hotel in Kansas City, Missouri, and it had a lot of weight on a set of six nuts that were threaded onto rods welded to the ceiling.

    The rods would not break, they had great tensile strength, said the engineers.

    But the nuts were against holes cut into the middle of box beams, at the thinnest part of the box beams, and the vibration caused the nuts to work through the holes....

    Quite a few people were squashed like bugs.

    If I could run the world, everything would take longer to build, but there would be less accidents.
