    that they have "well integrity".

    they have "well integrity".

One of the biggest variables is whether the area called the annulus, which is between the inner piping and the outer casing, has sprung an oil leak. Engineers probably won't be able to answer that question until they drill in from the bottom, he [Allen] said.
"Everyone would like to have this thing over as soon as possible," Allen said, adding: "We don't know the condition of the well until we start pushing mud into it."

Last week Allen also mentioned that there was disagreement on the scientific team about what lower than expected pressure readings meant.

Objecting to needlessly putting pressure on wild well in unknown condition should not be characterized as any sort of tin foil concern.

The safest procedure was always to produce the flow before the bottom kill but that would mean an accurate measurement of the spew for fines for BP which would be much harder for BP to fight in court. The billions at stake provide BP much motivation to have done very serious foot dragging on containment/production.
