All this bullshit from both political parties about how teacher unions are out of touch, are in the way of their rank-and-file, and how every damn idea about how to reform education are all top-down ideas designed by people who never taught a day in their lives, and will destroy public education for the benefit of private, corporatized schools.

    It just pisses me off.

Unions can't just be for the blue collar workers anymore.

I want to join this political party - where is it?

We all need to organize if we're not lucky enough to be union already.

As for those who bad mouth their unions - get involved, raise some hell, and force some changes. Yeah, it's hard work, but hopefully you wont get shot at.

Damn straight I'm Union. I climb poles and fix cable to unclog the tubes that bring you the internets. You're Welcome.

    •  I have seen some scummy teacher's union behavior. (0+ / 0-)

I tend to think, actually, the AFT -- the more "union"-oriented one -- behaves a lot better than the NEA -- the more "guild"-oriented one.

Frankly there's too much covering for incompetents, and that's the core problem with teachers' unions.  It probably wouldn't be a problem except that management is allowed in the union too -- management being principals -- and ends up engaging in the same kind of covering for incompetents, and there's no opposing force.  I always thought that was weird.  Why is management allowed in the union?
