some people off, but i feel that if you can afford to build nuclear weapons then you don't need or deserve any aid. israel, afghanistan, pakistan, north korea, etc, shouldn't be given any aid period. i feel sorry that the citizens of pakistan have been devastated by floods and many lost their lives, but their own government does little to nothing to make their lives better, but still builds weapons.

    •  feel personally responsible for actions by Bush? (4+ / 0-)

      and Nixon, Reagan etc?

Feel personally responsible for dropping an atomic bomb on Japan?

Feel personally responsible for the drowning of New Orleans?

If you are not held personally responsible for all the actions of your government in a republic; how much less so are people in countries less democratic?

    •  It doesn't piss me off... (4+ / 0-)

But it so short-sighted.  People shouldn't suffer because their government can't get their shit together.  Open your heart.  It needs some fresh air.

    •  So they get screwed by their government twice? (6+ / 0-)

First with their wasting national resources to build nuclear weapons (which were developed under the undemocratic Musharraf regime), and then with their being punished for doing so by being denied aid in a time of deep crisis?

What a lovely philosophy you have.

Also, I wasn't aware that Afghanistan was building nuclear weapons. Citation?

What have you done for DC statehood today? Call your Rep and Senators and demand action.

People are suffering and dying in Pakistan and you try to turn it into a political issue? Vile.

Humans are called to help humans. When disaster strikes, borders are meaningless.

When misfortune strikes the United States, I am thankful that other nations are able to set aside their differences with us and forgive us our crimes long enough to aid us.

We must do everything we can to help the people of Pakistan. If their government is not doing enough, then that means that the rest of the world must do even more to ensure the safety and well-being of the Pakistani people who are suffering through these floods.

"The government needs to spend its money on more important things, such as anti-tobacco programs, pro-tobacco programs, killing wild donkeys, and Israel."
