  •  How about this sector we could build here: (6+ / 0-)

Railroads, and all the 21st century technology to have something that might compete with the other countries of the world.  We could sell it just like other countries do, to other countries.

As it is, we must buy truly high-speed (200-220 + kph/120-160 + mph)passenger rail systems from the following countries: Spain, France, Japan, China, Germany, UK, Russia.  ALL have domestic or partnership technology and manufacturing that they sell to others, like the United States, because WE DON'T BUILD IT HERE!

Imagine the combining of truly innovative passenger and freight lines with solar, wind, or other renewable electricity sources that obviate the need for fossil fuels.  Results: jobs, investment in technology and manufacturing capability, improved air quality, reduced dependence on foreign oil, reduced foreign debt (both by buying less petroleum abraod and by sales of U.S. technology elsewhere), reduced military expenditures to secure said foreign oil, fewer military deaths, etc., etc.

and I'm not even an economist or economic development professional.  I'm sure others with more expertise could refine and improve the idea.

Torture is Wrong! We live near W so you don't have to. Send love.
