    I think our Horizon-centric view has caused us to interpret the article in a way opposite than it was intended.

    The thrust is not "look, using Corexit's OK because...", it's "look, you've freaked about Corexit - now freak about this"

    viz this section:

    Surfactants are only one of a myriad of potentially harmful chemical substances delivered by the Mississippi and other rivers and streams to the Gulf each day, scientists say.

      I was responding to the suggested reactions that it might be spun as insignificant.  By the time I'd thought about it for a while, I was arguing against the wrong party.  ;)
