from my dad than I could have learned at some girl scout camp.  Liability stuff, and all that 'cause he let me carry a 10" Buck knife and a loaded rifle.  More important than the hunt, I learned the habits of all wildlife.  You develop a respect for the wilderness when you're out there alone that I can't imagine experiencing if I were out there with a gaggle of shrieking, giggling little girly-girls.

BTW, that beat anything my bf ever did, and he was an Eagle scout and Order of the Arrow (or something like that.)  His adoring mommie was so proud of him, but you should have seen the look on her face when I told her about my experiences.  I topped her perfect angel, and she hated me for it.

Personally, I don't care for either scouting group, but I suppose they might have a place for urban kids.

We learned about knives and knife safety, but nothing about guns.

I went hiking on the bottom of the Talullah Gorge a few weeks ago.  It's a strenuous, dangerous hike across the rapids of a river, but the scenery is worth the effort.

There were quite a few families out there, with dad in the lead, mom struggling behind, and a little girl getting helped across the rocks by daddy.  Their little pink shirts were smeared with river mud, but they had joyous smiles on their faces as their fathers caught and held them when they slipped.

I wish my dad had been interested in that sort of thing when I was that age.

Conservatives: They love America. They hate actual Americans.
