  •  Actually, it is not even that (9+ / 0-)

The site of Park51 project, or Cordoba House as it will be called, is not sacred ground, it is not a scene of a crime.

It is nothing but an old, unused building that in its century of life has been a textile factory, and a couple of clothing stores.  That's it.

Please, the building IS NOT AT THE WTC SITE.  It is two blocks away.  For anyone who knows Manhattan, being two blocks or two miles away from something, looks pretty much the same.

Look at a previous comment of mine with maps...

    •  Yes, I know it's not the scene of a crime... (7+ / 0-)

Timmy Pawlenty, stupid governor of this state, has conflated the Twin Towers location with the location of the community center, and I was paraphrasing him.

I am not the least bit confused about the two different locations, but I didn't write clearly.  I'm sorry for that.

For that matter, wasn't it broadcast - at the time - that there was an old historic colonial [Christian] church near the site of 9/11 crimes that escaped damage when the buildings fell?

They're asking for another four years -- in a just world, they'd get 10 to 20. ~~ Dennis Kucinich

      •  One church survived, one didn't (8+ / 0-)

St. Paul's Chapel on Broadway is fine.  It's churchyard backs up against Church Street which is basically the front door of the WTC site.

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church was completely destroyed, crushed by the collapsing Tower 2.  There are plans to rebuild this church just a few yards from where it originally stood.
