With Gore's help, the Clinton Admin proposed a carbon tax, which was then called the BTU tax. It was torpedoed by the fossil fools and died in the senate by the hands of Republicans after passing the House shortly after Clinton entered office. The tax hikes on the rich at the same time did pass, barely, without any Republican help.

Americans don't mind taxes if they get benefits from them. Tax cuts for the rich, fossil fuel subsidies, wars, and bloated defense budgets are mostly what our Federal tax dollars pay for. Which is why many Americans hate taxes because they get no value for them.

have two different standards. If Obama is a failure because he can't get carbon taxes passed then so was Gore and the worst part is that a carbon tax passed in 1995 would've helped 10X than a similar one passed in 2010.

wrt taxation on fossil fuels and elimination of the subsidies for the same. I am just as disappointed with Obama for failing to frontally assault the oil and gas criminals and use taxes to level the playing field against fossil fuels.

Plus, the VP (except in the case of Cheney, who used Bush II as his sockpuppet) typically is not the frontal proposer of legislation. I haven't seen Biden come up with or push any legislation.

Additionally, both the Clinton and Obama administrations have folded like a cheap card table when confronted by reactionary Republicans and their toadies in the corporate media with respect to progressive environmental initiatives.
