  •  Subsidies are not the same as tax credits (1+ / 0-)

I am proposing that we need to do something similar to what we did for the aerospace industry after WWII. We basically subsidized both military and commercial aerospace development for 50 years.

Renewables would likely have more of a ripple effect than aerospace did too. Although aerospace did, in many cases it was difficult to transfer to commercial applications in a lot of cases.

    •  ever looked inside a computer? (0+ / 0-)

Every microchip inside one is a spinoff from aerospace research spending in the 1960s-1980s.

The whole microchip thing started out as a result of the need to cram more and more electronics into research rockets and nuclear missiles.

Those nonstick frying pan coatings? Aerospace again.

Google on "NASA Tech Briefs" to find out more about aerospace tech transfer.

      •  I know that these exist and that there are (0+ / 0-)

many more. In fact though there was a difficulty in translating other technologies to commercial use. The most obvious include the weaponry, death rays and stealth technology.

But your contribution to this only amplifies the original argument which is that if investment in something like aerospace can generate what it did, why can't like investment in renewables generate even more?

I in fact worked in aerospace for many years and had a good view of the successful and unsuccessful attempts at tech transfer.

I am also a bit unclear why you are so strident in your reply.
