    all it takes to get America's carbon burden down is massive demand reduction due to economic collapse.

    If people can't afford to buy food, the oil consumption required to grow it doesn't happen. If there are no jobs, people won't be driving to work. If nobody can afford to fly, jets don't burn jet fuel.

    Ordinarily, this would be "A Modest Proposal" kind of satire.

    Unfortunately, bi-partisan Federal government policies appear to be setting up this scenario. Though I believe that this is simply the outcome of the usual kind of unchecked greed which results when the wealthiest capture the government as a tool for wealth capture from everyone else, which generally results in social and economic collapse.

    The 21st Century difference is that the wealthiest, aka the parasite class figure they can outfly coming trouble in their private jets and find a new host to bleed dry.
