    the "twist" one feels in the car is because of the sudden accelleration of the crankshaft (which is actually a good deal heavier than the flywheel, but they are bolted to each other)

    I played enough with little gyroscopes as a kid to leave me with the impression that any mass rotating with enough inertial to be used as a driving force for a car, might have some really odd effects when being rotated. (never could really understand why, but I get the impression that I'd try to make a left turn, maybe the car would pitch up slightly?)

    And would probably be pretty spectacular to watch if the bearings were iffy. From a distance. :)
