  •  Yeah, yeah, yeah (0+ / 0-)

I get that.  I think it's despicable what Bush did.  But, Obama has been releasing people, he's trying to wind this down.  I'm sure he gets that too.  Given that he's trying to wind this down, it's worth asking why Obama is holding on to this guy.

I'm just not always ready to sling shit, I want to look deeper first, even if the knee jerk reaction feels morally right at first read.

    •  I believe that well over half the original (0+ / 0-)

total detainees were released under GWB, leaving the ones we really don't want in the public eye and maybe even a few bona fide terrorists. I believe that this one is of the former category, far, far too embarrassing to simply turn loose.

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt -

    •  Obama hasn't winded down anything (0+ / 0-)

the exact same policies are still in place.

This guy is getting prosecuted because Obama chose to.

      •  Yes, but Bush put him there. (0+ / 0-)

Obama has to continue to deal with the mess that Bush left.  That Bush threw people in jail who didn't deserve it has already been proven.  That Bush tortured people for untrue confessions that suited his needs is also proven.

Obama is not doing this.  He's been releasing people that deserved it.  I don't know why Obama is keeping this guy back, but I have no doubt that there is a reason.

        •  No (0+ / 0-)

"He's been releasing people that deserved it."

This isn't for Obama to decide, that's for a judge to decide. Obama's releasing some people, giving others fair trials, give yet more others sham trials (military tribunals) and a final category aren't getting any trial at all. This is the exact same policy as under Bush.

Bush released people as well you know.

There's still people being held that aren't being accused of anything and for which no evidence exists.

So Obama isn't dealing with any mess, he's continuing it.
