you would be getting a donut from me.   Personal attacks aren't acceptable here.

      •  Neither are RW talking points. (0+ / 0-)

        Your guy

that's your guy, your denials aside, is indeed a racebaiter. The ad speaks for itself. And I was being mild in using the word jerk for an excusemaker. What do you think Democats would say if your guy was a Registered Republican?

So when youemail the campaign as you say you're going to do, what are you going to say? ~ Oh hey listen man..you know..? That's the problem with pushover progressives and the almost perennial rump party the Democrats have become as a result. What do you stand for? Civility and blog decorum as the permanent political pawns of an underclass are thrown under the bus, evidently. So Fuckin flame away.

you don't know me, you don't know the district.  He's not "my guy", but he's all we've got just now.   And,  I detest the ad, but you are not letting it "speak for itself", you're adding your own interpretation.

If he has to be an asshole why vote for him? Our party has to stand for something?

And for all the hoopla about "not attacking the President" this week, this is the kind of attack that should be called out.  It is not legitimate criticism and it is disloyal to the party.  And he's being a hypocrite.

Again, we need the return of the 50 state strategy that has permanent assets on the ground so that the Democratic Party is known in people's lives.  When people start to create communities based on progressive values that will influence others.

In fact, it was the 50 state strategy that led to Donnelly being elected in 2006, after a few terms of a very right wing Republican.  We have permanent Democratic assets on the ground in this district, it is not a conservative district but very close to 50-50.  And there are a lot of progressives around, especially in South Bend.  But that doesn't mean we can get a progressive elected to Congress here, and it puts all of us between a rock and a hard place when it comes to supporting a blue dog candidate financially and volunteering for his campaign.  If we withhold support, it's back to the right wing for us, and that is not acceptable.

Donnelly has been a decent congressman in some ways, but he has many flaws too, as this ad shows.   I absolutely agree he should be called out for the spineless and hypocritical attack on Obama.   My only complaint is that he's being called a bigot here, and that he is not.

              •  yes, but Rahm screwed us (0+ / 0-)

He was in charge of the DCCC and concentrated on getting Blue Dogs elected everywhere. He was working at cross purposes against grassroots orgs such as Democracy for America and MoveOn that were working to get progressives elected.

opposition to illegal immigrans is automatically racist, and never about jobs? That's bullshit.

Are you saying calling Obama part of the "Washington crowd" is somehow racist because Obama is black? Also bullshit.

The recession has made a lot of working class people touchier about illegal immigration, and you CANNOT effectively address that problem by yelling "Race-baiter!" every time someone brings up the issue. That is a dead-end, pointless tactic for dealing with a loaded political issue where working class people are (once again) fighting with each other over too small a piece of the pie.

There is a LOT of race-baiting going on in this country right now. But let's stick to the real thing.

          •  It's dog whistle politics. It's not necessarily (0+ / 0-)

an indication that the politician himself is racist, but it damn well is an indication that he understands what anybody who grew up around a bunch of racist assholes or who has been subject to racism already knows: some people see or hear "illegal immigrant" and think "yeah, those dirty fucking spics."

The ad is racist because of that, even if the crotchwaffle behind it isn't personally.

    •  Personal attack aside, (0+ / 0-)

the poster may be right I/R/T the ad helping his chances to win.  Immigration reform is not the most popular issue in many parts of the Midwest.

...with false claims of racism. Have you no shame. I won't even go into fact that these law breakers drive wages down and take jobs we desperately need these days (a whole third shift of a very desirable jobs in a local packing local plant have been taken over by illegal’s...plus the local Purdue and Tyson plants are full of illegal’s were a lot of citizens apply every day).  Those illegal’s are taking jobs our citizens are more than willing to work in a job market that has more than one in ten American citizens unemployed...and apparently you do not do give a damned about that!

Since when is it bigotry to protect our own people’s wages and Jobs, Mexican Americans included. I don't want a Union of North America de facto or de jure. Any democrat who runs on securing our borders is going to win whether you like it or not because a majority of Americans want illegal immigration stopped and more everyday are coming to that conclusion, and most of them are not bigots. Quit throwing the word bigot around like you can read people minds and know their hearts.

      •  Guest worker visa vs illegal (3+ / 0-)

The Republicans are going to demand a comprehensive and very large (read millions of applicants) guest worker visa program as part of any immigration reform.

You see, all those jobs you're complaining about, the Republicans are not about to allow them to be filled at wages they simply don't want to pay and with people who will not accept the abuse they routinely dish out.

A guest worker program simply legalizes what they have been doing for decades. So kvetch all you want, those jobs will not be filled by Americans.  People who can legally come here and work for shit wages and get tossed out just as easily and NO path to citizenship. You get sick, injured, or old, its GOODBYE! And take your anchor baby with you.

This is the same program that is causing massive problems in Europe. I don't want that for this country.  I want people to have the opportunity to become Americans.

or find some other blog to blurt out obnoxious personal attacks

You've made three HR-worthy comments in a few minutes, next time count to ten before you post
