    for this line in particular.

The fight for Social Security now is a fight for a secure retirement for all generations of Americans.

It's worth the fight to keep it going. For us, for our children and grandchildren.

What do we struggle against the most? The inevitable.

    •  I'm on social security (4+ / 0-)

went early due to medical issues.  I do not fear that
anything will be done to MY social security, but I have
been fighting  a battle about the solvency of social
security to my children, 4 out of 5 have little faith
that social security will be there for them when they
retire.  What kind of message is this?  For the very
first time I am starting to believe that they are
right, only because we have two political parties
willing to throw the best thing in this country away.
      Sad, very sad...

In 2037, if absolutely nothing is done to shore up the system, your children will get about 78% of the benefit they are scheduled to receive as of today. That amount will still be larger after adjusting for inflation than what you get today.

If we raise the tax cap a little and maybe the tax rate a tiny bit, they could get all their benefits for a very long time.

If we cut benefits today by 13% for all new retirees, they would in 2037 get 87% of what they are scheduled to get today and that could be sustained for a very long time.

So a slight tax increase, and even a slight benefit cut and they will with a great deal of certainty still be better off in absolute terms when they retire than you are today.
