    I've been kind of wondering what is going to happen to plastic production when we run our of black gooey stuff since I rely on medical plastics.

    My understanding is that biodegradable plastics cannot be used as medical plastics so I'm hoping they come up with something.

      they already have. You can use coal, gas, natural gas, or oil to produce petrochemicals. You can also use biomass. Biodegradeability has nothing to do with it. You can produce petrochemicals for various types of plastics from other sources. There's nothing special about oil.
