    In all fairness, repeal of the Seventeenth Amendment would make U.S. Senators, in theory, more responsive to the needs and wishes of state legislators, since it would be their immediate constituency.

    Which might be useful this year and next, when Obama and Congress seem barely aware that states are so completely fucking broke they're cutting school days, firing cops, unpaving roads, selling infrastructure for pennies on the dollar, and basically admitting they can't do anything without raising taxes.

    I'm not saying repeal is a good idea, but at a time when Congress is willfully ignoring state problems, it does have the potential to make Senators, at least, care a bit more about the concerns of state legislators.

    Since almost nothing else has.

    You can have our filibuster-proof majority; we weren't using it anyway.
