    My father waited until the black and white TV set that my parents had bought when they got married gave up its ghost. That was when appliances were still solidly built -- that sucker lasted forever. The first TV show I ever saw in color was Dynasty.

      They didn't see any reason for color TV since they mainly watched for content (how quaint!).

      OTOH, they actually beat me. They went for a color television in the 70's; I got my first one in 1986. I actually went through a several periods of years when I didn't have a television at all.

      Trapper LOVES television so we have digital satellite. Sometimes when he happens to be away, the TV stays off until he walks back in the front door.

      My dad kept the big B&W Philco until after I left for college. I didn't know The Wizard of Oz switched from black-and-white to color until I was 20.
