    Just one quibble. I have had better luck in the past, however, in not using someone's first name right off. It can seem overfamiliar, especially coming from a younger canvasser. I would suggest, personally, that anyone that is over forty five should automatically be addressed by their title (Mr., Mrs., Doctor...) and last name. If they ask you to call them by their first you will know you are "in", but it is an easy "out" to seem overfamiliar. I have come to consider it part of the closed screen door, personal space thing over the years.
