  •  Plenty of Dems lauded the filibuster (0+ / 0-)

when they were in the minority.  If I remember, even Joe Biden called it a protection of minority rights - which it is.  And it should remain so.  Trying to eliminate it now, with elections coming up in November that will probably end with a smaller, but still-majority, of Democrats in the Senate, is nothing but a plain and obvious attempt to maintain power of action.  It isn't about principle at all.  We've got to learn to look past the short term - as the poster says, the day will come when the Democrats too will value the filibuster once again, if it still exists.

    •  Which minority rights? (0+ / 0-)

In particular. Which minority rights are being protected by the filibuster?

The right to extended debate, which is what the filibuster is really supposed to be about (and is in fact the formal definition of the filibuster)? Because I don't see anybody debating when a filibuster is going on. I just hear a whole lot of classical music and see a whole lot of blue carpet on C-SPAN.

So which minority right is it that's being protected by the filibuster, exactly?

If it's the "right" to forbid the Senate from considering legislation, I think you're barking up the wrong tree.
